Has an eBay Store Helped With Sales?

I signed up for an eBay store about two months ago, planning to list more items and make enough in sales to cover the store fee as well as save money in fees, especially since eBay changed the free listings structure to leave out most of the categories I sell in.

My short answer to this question right now is no, it hasn’t helped with sales. And as part of the summer slump, we sold one item during the entire month of July. I don’t have an income report for July yet because it was mostly expenses.

But I also haven’t been doing my part – listing. We can’t make money if we don’t list, and with just over 50 items in the store I’m not surprised that we’re not selling more.

Our goal for the rest of 2014 is to reach 500 items in our eBay store. As of 8/7 we have 58 active listings. We need to list 21 items a week to reach our goal. (2015 update – we have over 400 items now listed, but we’re cleaning out a lot of stuff during our move, so we’ll be revamping the store. But I upgraded to a premium store for $60 month with 500 listings, Paying that $60 monthly is our impetus for getting those 500 quality items into the store as quickly as possible once our move is complete. Our store is on vacation until the end of August.)

We’re also selling on Craig’s List and a couple of yard sale sites local to our area, so I’m going to say 21 items listed each week between eBay and other sales venues.
