Lipedema Videos – The Medical Community

June is Lipedema Awareness Month and I’ve got some great things planned for this year.

If you’re not familiar with lipedema, you can start out by reading the posts I made last year for the 2014 blog hop – I Have Lipedema Part 1Fat Legs Aren’t Our FaultLilith’s Road to RecoveryTaking Action – the Lymphedema Treatment Act and More. If you’re not familiar with lipdema, you can find out more at bigfatlegs.comlipese.com (I’m a contributing lifestyle blogger) and Lipedema Simplified and the Life with Lipedema Facebook page.

I’m going to start the video series with the doctors that know about Lipedema or are in the process of learning about lipedema. We’ll start with the Queen Bee, Dr. Karen Herbst. Dr. Herbst is an endocrinologist who’s been studying fat disorders and lipdema for several years. The following is a playlist from the presentations at the Fat Disorders Research Society Conference in 2014. There are a lot of videos in the playlist, but I ask each of you to please watch at least one or two and learn more about fat disorders and lipedema. You can learn more about fat disorders at FatDisorders.org

The lipdema community is thankful to have Dr. Herbst as well as the other doctors who are learning about this disorder and have such an interest in it, both in America and internationally. American doctors don’t know a lot about this disorder, and because of that it is misdiagnosed or under-diagnosed. If anything is said at all to a person with lipedema, it’s about our weight. This is fat bias, and we want doctors to understand that everything going on with our health is not about our weight.

Do you have an unusual or rare disease or disorder? Let me know in the comments or get in touch on Facebook or Twitter.
