Fun Afternoon at Throwback Fiesta

I was given 2 tickets to Throwback Fiesta to write a post to promote this event. This is a follow-up post on attending the event.

We’ve attended our first Fiesta event!

This was the first event Throwback Fiesta and I hope they do it again next year. It was a lot of fun seeing the costumes and hearing the music from my teenage years. Metal Shop, the hair band, put on a great show.

The event was in Maverick Park, which is a bit north of us, so we took the bus. We got there with no trouble but the Via site wanted us to get off earlier than we should have and walk to the next stop. We got there a bit late but in enough time to see Metal Shop perform their first set. We also got to see the costume contest and I took part in the T shirt workshop hosted by local blogger Morena’s Corner. I love my bluebonnet blue Texas T shirt. I bought it on clearance at the HEB grocery store. T shirt Fiesta event

The weather was great – not too hot or too cool. I was prepared to be hot but by the time we got to the park and under the trees it felt very nice outside. We brought our camp chairs with us and enjoyed a picnic while we listened to the music and people watched.

We probably could have driven into town for this event. It was held on a Sunday afternoon and traffic was very light. The people were fairly well spread out so there wasn’t a large crowd. We  weren’t sure where to park though, so it was  easier for us to take the bus instead.

Next year I’d like to attend the more traditional King William Fair and maybe see one of the river parades in addition to Throwback Fiesta. This was a wonderful event and it was a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon downtown.

Have you ever attended a Fiesta event in San Antonio? Let me know in the comments or get in touch on Facebook or Twitter.
