My Favorite Inspirational Broadway Songs Week 7

I’ve enjoyed plays and musicals for a long time, but it wasn’t until I started watching Glee that I was really introduced to musical theater – the stories and the lyrics to the songs. I have to credit Glee for introducing me to these songs and their inspirational messages, but now that I know they’re out there I’m looking for more. For the next 10 weeks I’ll be sharing my favorite inspirational songs from musicals – the stage or the movie version if that’s the one I know.

Week 1 – I’m the greatest star      Week 3 – Something’s Coming

Week 2 – Defying Gravity              Week 4 – Today for You, Tomorrow for Me

Week 5 – Maybe This Time           Week 6 – This is the Moment

Open a New Window from Mame is inspirational because it shares the simplest of advice – if you’re doing the same thing as everyone else, if you’re in a rut, then do something to change it. Go in a different direction, and if someone says you’re unconventional, then “lift your thumb up to your nose”. Maybe not the best thing to do in every situation, as we don’t want to burn bridges, but if there’s something in your heart to do or be or a place to go, then by all means find a way to make it happen and don’t let anyone tell you differently.

This version is Angela Lansbury who played the role in 1966. This clip is from the 1971 Tony Awards.

How have you “opened a new window” in your life? Let me know in the comments or get in touch on Facebook or Twitter.
