My Favorite Inspirational Broadway Songs Week 5

I’ve enjoyed plays and musicals for a long time, but it wasn’t until I started watching Glee that I was really introduced to musical theater – the stories and the lyrics to the songs. I have to credit Glee for introducing me to these songs and their inspirational messages, but now that I know they’re out there I’m looking for more. For the next 10 weeks I’ll be sharing my favorite inspirational songs from musicals – the stage or the movie version if that’s the one I know. (Just watched the Glee finale the other day. I will miss that show!)

This is one song that I know I heard on Glee at some point but what brought it to mind again was seeing it on Bates Motel of all places. Norman and his mother were trying out for a community theater production of South Pacific and this was Norma’s audition song.

The song is about falling in love, but I like the chorus, and it can apply to anything in life, not just falling in love. I like the song because she’s saying she’s not going to give up. All these other times, even though she’s been hurt and let down, she won’t give up because it’s going to happen. Whatever she wants, whatever she’s believing for, it will happen one day. The lyrics go like this:

All the odds are in my favor
Something’s bound to begin
It’s got to happen, happen sometime
Maybe this time I’ll win—
