World’s Largest Cowboy Boots at North Star Mall

We had to head towards the north side of San Antonio a couple of weeks ago to get some more work done on our van, so to kill some time we decided to check something else off of our San Antonio bucket list and head to North Star Mall.

We didn’t just want to do some shopping and eat at Chik-Fil-A. We wanted to get a picture of the cowboy boots.

It took us a while to find them, but thank to the Internet we found out the boots were located near the Saks Fifth Avenue store on the lower level. Once we found the store, we were able to exit the mall and find the boots.

The 40-foot-tall boots were made in 1979 by artist Bob “Daddy-O” Wade. They were in Washington, DC for a year and then were moved to Texas and placed at the mall. The boots have been there now for 35 years, and in 2012 the mall paid to refurbish the tops of them.

We also did a bit of shopping, enjoyed some sweet tea at Chick-Fil-A, and then headed back to the garage to grab our van.

Have you visited the boots at North Star Mall? What quirky tourist attraction have you ever visited? Let me know in the comments or get in touch on Facebook or Twitter.

  1. The boots are a landmark! My husband has no idea where North Star Mall is, but if I say, “it’s near the mall with the boots,” he knows exactly what I’m talking about. 🙂
