The Serenity Project Update

We’ve entered Week 10 of the Serenity Project. It hasn’t moved along as quickly as I’d hoped, partially because I used some of the money to travel back to Georgia when my grandmother passed away. We’d passed $300 at that point and so we’re rebuilding that money and moving ahead. My holiday part-time job also ended, although I have one more paycheck from that position to go towards the project.

I finished reading Dream, Save, Do (affiliate link) by Warren and Betsy Talbot of Married with Luggage. We created our Dream Porn as well as another little visual to help us see our savings. We color in a square each time we save $100 towards the RV.

Since the job ended, we’ve decided to focus more on our eBay business. Working outside of our current position, where we live where we work, I had to determine what was the most worthwhile project to put time into. So we changed up our schedules and we’re focusing on the eBay business. Our goal is to reach 500 items in our eBay store. We have plenty to list, so that’s not a problem. We just need to be more consistent about listing and getting it done. According to Scavenger Life, once you hit about 500 items you should be earning $2,000 month (gross sales). Most of that money, after eBay and PayPal fees, should go towards the Serenity Project. We have a breakdown in place (based on Cassie Parks’ book, Dealing with Your Money $h!t) (affiliate link) and we’re sticking to it.

The plan is to take the net amount in PayPal and splitting it up on a percentage basis. Fifty percent goes into the Serenity fund. The rest of the money goes to giving, some fun stuff we want to do, and lowering expenses by paying off some small debts.

I’ll update again in another 10 weeks and see how far along we are. We’ve hit 150 items in the eBay store, so we have a way to go, and we’re not as far along as I’d wanted to be in the savings account, but I’m staying on track and I believe that by the end of week 27 we’ll be buying our RV.
