Inspirational Education Month – Rita Pierson TED Talk

Many of us have kids going back to school or starting a new homeschooling year. I homeschooled my son from third grade through graduation, and while I miss those days (sometimes) it’s especially true at this time of the year. I see other bloggers talking about curriculum and taking those first day photos and it all comes back to me. So I thought I would spend the next month (August 31 – September 28) highlighting inspiring education.

Week 1 – Steve Jobs Commencement Speech at Stanford University

Oh, my gosh, when I saw this TED talk I was blown away. Rita Pierson had a presence and a passion for education and for children that could not be held inside. I loved how she talked about how a -18 would crush you but a +2 could inspire you. Teachers like Dr. Pierson, who do their best to educate, encourage and inspire children in spite of government regulations and testing requirements that don’t make sense should be honored and encouraged more than they are.

Dr. Pierson passed away in June of 2013, her legacy of inspiring children and teachers will forever live on thanks to TED talks and the power of technology.

Did you have a teacher that inspired you, a teacher that was your champion? Let me know in the comments or get in touch on Facebook or Twitter.
